BassLine Theory
Bass Reflex
was invented and adopted into the speaker production industry
back in 1936. This was done to better capture the sound
that is created off the back of the bass driver mounted
in the cabinet. Before Bass Reflex was created, all speaker
cabinets were sealed units that only used the sound from
the front of the bass driver. To imagine how this affected
the overall quality of the sound, put a cover over the hole
in an acoustic guitar thereby only allowing the sound from
the strings to be heard. Removing this 'cover' over the
hole or
port
allows the cabinet acoustics to be added to the string sound.
|
BassLine SpeakerPanels
are an alternative solution to
the acoustic problems the industry
tries to overcome... |
|
The result is twice as much sound, and a more realistic
sound with full body acoustics.
The concept behind BassLine is to treat the speaker
cabinet as an acoustical instrument instead of just a soapbox
with speakers mounted to it.
BassLine will allow you to capture the sound created
off the back of the bass driver.
When the industry started to port speaker cabinets they
found the sound emulating from the ports was larger but
distorted. This was due to
standing wave distortion
caused by sound waves in the cabinet canceling each other
out.
The solution they came up with was to dampen or muffle out
the low frequency distortion by applying an insulation to
the inside walls of the cabinet.
The most common material used is
Fiber Glass, Foam or Dacron.
All of these absorb too much of the sound and result in
a muffled bass emulating from the ports or ducts.
BassLine SpeakerPanels are an alternative solution
to these acoustic problems the industry tries to overcome;
retaining all of the positive affects and overcoming most
of the negative. BassLine will absorb enough of the
sound to eliminate standing wave distortion but yet allows
a larger portion of the sound to escape through the
ports without the distortion factor caused by using other
insulation products.
Your speakers will sound cleaner, with more sound emulating
from your bass ports - Bigger Cleaner BASS... Without Distortion!
You will be surprised at the difference it makes in your
speakers when you hear it for yourself!
Inventor's Statement
Carl Billington, Inventor
Carl discovered this process while experimenting with Bass
Reflex speaker production. From a very young age he had
a desire to come up with an alternative insulation product
that would help him perfect the acoustic performance and
cleanliness of his custom built speakers. Carls' persistence
and creative desire allowed him to invent the BassLine
product and insulation process.

"If you choose to add BassLine
to your product line, or in your
personal speakers, you WILL discover
a new dimension in sound." |
|
Carl has been creating in various mediums since the age
of fourteen. His favorites are Blues harmonica and percussion
when it comes to music; acoustics and wood cabinetry for
sound (BassLine), poetry and visual arts with his
original style of paintings. Lately, he has delved into
Business, Communications, and Production ventures. These
have allowed Carl to reach a much larger audience and market.
As an artist, Carl's interest was to create only one speaker
pair with BassLine inside. This was a custom-built
pair created as sculptures to produce
Harmonized Bass.
At the time he was quite eccentric in his pursuits. As an
artist his desire to create art forms that are unique was
the motivation behind his inventive discovery. Since then,
he has released the exclusivity of BassLine and has
worked on sharing this invention with the world.
"If you choose to add BassLine to your product line,
or in your personal speakers, you WILL discover a new dimension
in sound."
Carl Billington's tests of BassLine have been on
all potential retrofit applications, with all of the installation
improvements being successful to date.
The market for Carl's invention are so wide that there is
many opportunities for individuals and companies to earn
money from this product and process.

Customer Testimonials
"I loaded BassLine SpeakerPanels into
a pair of high-powered monitors I use for serious
concerts. I've used it successfully in concerts
with Kim Mitchell, Jeff Healy, Colin James,
Powder Blues, Prairie Oyster, Irish Rovers,
Gary Fjellgaard, 54-40, and Dave Gogo. It tightened
up the bottom end - made it clearer. It breaks
up standing waves and gets rid of undesirable
bass resonance."
Al Reimer, Owner/Operator of Reimer Audio, Nanaimo,

Designer and builder of professional sound systems. |
"I installed them in my studio bass rig (a 400W
1 x 15 cab). Immediately noticeable was an increase
in SOLID bottom end, not the kind of low midrangey
bottom that it originally had. I would have
to guess that at around 50Hz there is a noticeable
improvement, and the port volume (to my ears)
seemed louder, which would probably account
for some of the low-frequency improvement. Installation
was simple, all I used was a knife to cut [the
panels] to size. I'm, impressed!!"

"We've been getting a pretty good response from
musicians on the net. Could be that people who
have tried the product have been talking. I
know personally that after installing the liners
in one of my studio monitors I was amazed at
the difference. These are small KLH ported enclosures
about 10" high and I was surprised that it would
make any difference at all. I am definitely
going to the other monitor."

"I did one of my home speakers(JBL) and
a/b'ed the two . I did notice more low mid
bass than the untreated one. I'll do that
one and a 15" cab(EV) I play out with. My
bands website

Jonathan Clift, JBL Home speaker conversion |
"Yes, I want more....
I didn't do a sceintific A / B test, but the
one (4 x 10) cabinet I did really seemed to
"tighten" things up and allow higher power without
distortion. I have a second 4 x 10 (the cabs
are both Carvins, one rather old, one newer)
I can use for conclusive testing, but I got
good results with the ("old") box. I've got
a 1 x18 I might use this next batch on, though...then
I've got 2ea. 2 x 10 boxes, and I'm getting
ready to build a
1 x 12 (of all things), so I've got a few options...keep
my address handy.
I used 23 1/2 panels for the 4 x 10 and I covered
pretty much everything except the baffle board.
This particular box had a very large center
post (center board?) which required 2 1/3 panels!
— I wasn't sure if I needed to "treat" that
piece or not, but I had enough extra, so I did.
So, let's do another!"

"In the Fall of 1998 we made arrangements for
the Loft Cabaret speakers to have BassLine
SpeakerPanels installed in them.
"The work was carried out by carl Billington
(inventor) and engineer Steve Choptiany. I am
informed by our Sound Technician, Steve Choptiany,
that before the BassLine was installed
in the 6-18 inch sub woofers built by Alan Reimer
of Reimer Audio (Nanaimo, BC) the volume was
maxed right out. Since the installation there
is better efficiency and 1/3 volume potential
left on the amps with the same sound produced.
It was also noted that the BASS sound from the
subs was crisper and cleaner, eliminating distortion.
